Going On Duty (Units)

Signing on makes you a unit: a callsign on the map, a line in the fleet, and someone dispatch can send. The terminal stays closed until you do.

Signing on

  1. Division — optional. Leave it on All of SAFR — no division if your community does not split fire and medical.
  2. Special Assignment — optional: rescue, hazmat, a supervisor unit, whatever your community runs.
  3. Callsign — you type this one yourself, e.g. ENGINE 1, MEDIC 3.
  4. Your Number — your personal number, e.g. 242.
  5. Your Name — optional.
  6. GO ON DUTY.

This is the main difference from LEO. A police callsign is assembled from the agency and your number; a fire callsign is the apparatus you are riding. An engine is an engine regardless of who is on it, so you type it.

Type it the way your community says it on the radio. ENGINE 1 and E1 are the same truck to you and two different trucks to a dispatcher scanning a list.

info

In Station Mode this form sits behind NO STATION. Everyone else picks a station and joins a crew or deploys an apparatus, and the callsign comes from the apparatus: ENGINE 3, or STATION 3 - 475 while you are in quarters. After a call your apparatus switches to Returning instead of available. See Station Mode.

Check the fleet first

The Active fleet panel beside the form shows every unit on duty, grouped by department and agency, with special assignments counted at the top. Use it to avoid signing on as the third rescue unit when the city has no medic.

One unit at a time

You cannot be two units at once — including a LEO unit in another community. Signing on elsewhere gives you Already On Duty, with the choice to resume that unit or release it. Full detail in Going On Duty.

Your status

The 10-codes at the bottom of the sidebar tell the city what you are doing. Attaching to a call sets you en route; arriving sets you on scene.

Keep them honest. Dispatch decides who to send off those colours, and on a medical call the difference between en route and on scene is the difference between sending a second unit or not.

Going off duty

GO OFF-DUTY at the bottom of the sidebar, then confirm. You land back on the portal. Leaving the game or being signed off by a supervisor does the same thing.
