BOLOs

Be On the Look Out — a short, live alert to everyone on duty: this plate, this person, last seen here, heading that way. A BOLO is not paperwork. It is what you put out while the thing is still happening.

Putting one out

The BOLO panel has three parts, and you fill in the ones you actually know.

Vehicle. Search by licence plate to pull a registered vehicle straight in, or type it by hand — plate, colour, make, model — when it is not on file or you only caught part of it. A half-remembered plate is still worth broadcasting.

Suspects. Searched by name or date of birth and attached as real people, so anyone reading the BOLO can open their record from it.

Location. A postal, a street or origin, and optionally a direction of travel. The postal is what puts it on the map; the direction is what makes it useful five minutes later.

Status

StatusMeans
ACTIVEout and running
APPREHENDEDyou got them
CANCELLEDcalled off — wrong car, false alarm, no longer relevant

Close your BOLOs. An active BOLO on a car that was recovered an hour ago sends the next shift after a vehicle nobody is looking for any more, and it is the first thing they see when they run that plate.

Where they show up

  • The topbar BOLO dropdown, with how long each one has been running. That running clock is deliberate — it is the fastest way to spot the one nobody closed.
  • First in any search. Run a plate or a name with an active BOLO on it and the BOLO comes back above the registration.
  • In the game, when a plate reader picks up a BOLO vehicle. See ALPR & Plate Alerts.

Writing one people can act on

Colour and body style beat make and model over the radio — nobody identifies a Bravado Buffalo at speed, everyone identifies a black four-door. Put the direction in and update it when it changes. And take it down the moment it is over.
