Sub-Departments & Special Units
Two managers that decide what a unit can sign on as: which agency they belong to, and what special assignment they can claim.
Sub-departments
The agencies inside LEO and SAFR: LSPD, BCSO, a fire division, whatever your
city runs. Each has a short code, a full name and an icon.
The short code is what a player picks at sign-on and what their callsign is built
from — LSPD plus 475 gives LSPD 475. Keep it short and keep it the one your
community actually says on the radio, because it ends up on every card and every
map blip.
The full name is what appears where there is room for it, like on paperwork.
In Station Mode the SAFR sub-departments are the divisions crews choose from: each gets its own column at sign-on, with the apparatus types you set up for it. See Stations & Apparatus.
Special units
A special assignment is a role a unit takes rather than an agency it belongs to: K9, air support, detectives, hazmat, a supervisor.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Callsign Prefix | replaces the agency in the callsign — KILO gives KILO 1 |
| Label | the full name, shown in the picker |
| Abbrev | the short tag on unit cards and the fleet overview |
| Available to department | whether it appears for LEO, SAFR, or both |
| Icon | the icon that unit type gets |
The prefix is the visible consequence. A regular unit is agency plus number;
a special unit is prefix plus a callsign number they choose. That is why the
prefix has to read like a callsign — KILO, AIR, DET — and not like a
description.
Abbrev matters more than it looks. It is what a dispatcher sees on a crowded unit card and in the special-unit counters on the sign-on screen, which is how a player decides whether the city needs a fourth K9.
Getting the set right
Start smaller than you think. Every special unit you add is another option on the sign-on screen and another thing to explain, and a list of fifteen assignments on a server with eight officers makes the fleet overview useless — which is exactly the screen meant to stop everyone signing on as the same thing.
Departments and special units are per community; a development tenant has its own set.
