Map Settings & Postals

Which map surfaces your community shows, the postal codes everyone uses to say where they are, and road status. It applies everywhere at once — dispatch, the MDTs and the in-game tablet.

Map regions

Which regions the map covers. Turn on the ones your server actually uses — a map showing an area no player can reach is empty space that makes everything else smaller.

Postal codes

Postals are the shared language for location across the whole CAD. They are on calls, on BOLOs, in the 311 form, on the dispatch map and in every "what's your 20" over the radio.

Upload the set your players already use in-game. That is the entire requirement, and it is worth being strict about: if the CAD's postals disagree with the ones on the player's screen, every location becomes a translation problem and people stop using them.

The default set works out of the box. Upload a custom one only when your server runs a different postal script — and then upload that script's set, not one that looks similar.

Road status

Road closures, roadworks, events, accidents, debris and hazards that units and services mark on the map — see The Map & GPS for how they are placed. Three settings:

SettingWhat it does
Show road status on the mapsthe whole feature on or off
Visible towho sees the markings: Civilians, Dispatch, LEO & SAFR
Marking typesper kind, on or off, and the longest it may last

Out of the box everything is on, for everyone, with a sensible maximum per kind. A road closure is public information, so most communities never need to touch this.

Who can place a marking: on-duty dispatch, LEO and SAFR, and civilian services you give the Road status module (see Civilian Services). Staff can only place a marking on a map that shows them, so leaving Dispatch or LEO & SAFR out of Visible to also takes the tool away from them. A service with the module always sees the markings on its own workspace map.

Civilians see the markings in the Traffic column of their Overview and on the in-game map.

What a change does:

  • It reaches every open map, the civilian Overview and the in-game map straight away — nobody has to reload.
  • Switching road status off hides every marking at once, in-game too. Markings that have not run out yet come back when you switch it on again.
  • Switching one kind off only stops new markings of that kind. The ones already on the map run out on their own.
  • A lower maximum applies to new markings and to extensions, not to what is already placed.

Copy Configuration takes these settings along; the markings themselves stay on the community they were placed in.

Why this matters more than it looks

Several features quietly depend on postals being right:

  • Dispatch's map places a call from its postal. A call without one cannot be placed at all.
  • Traffic stops fill in the nearest postal automatically from where the officer is standing.
  • BOLOs and 311 reports ask for one first.
  • Hydrants and hospital routing are read against the same geography.

A wrong postal set does not break anything visibly. It just makes every location in the CAD land somewhere slightly wrong, which is much harder to diagnose than an outright failure.

Changing it later

A new upload applies immediately and community-wide. Existing calls keep the postal they were filed with — the record shows what was true when it was reported, not what the set says today.
